Better Graphic Cards

Most people do not upgrade their computers even up to a few years after the initial purchase. Unless something gets damaged, they do not have to deal with computer stores that sell computer components. However, if you become a gamer then you might need to start buying new components on a regular basis. If you want to play a game that was released four years ago, then everything will work fine.

On the other hand, if you want to play a game that was just released a few weeks ago, then you might experience some problems with outdated hardware. In most cases, it is the graphic card that will not be able to render proper visual effects. Graphic cards can get very easily outdated. I know gamers who spend a lot of money on their PC, but now are having more and more problems running the newest computer games.

Be prepared to spend a lot of money on the newest components, especially if you want to pay the newest games. That is unless you want to play video games on a console like, for example, Nintendo Wii or Playstation 3. In such a case, you will not need to upgrade it by buying newer components, however, every few years you will need to replace it with a newer generation console.

Storing Your Backup Data

I could start by explaining the importance of doing regular backups. However, I believe that almost everybody knows how important it is to store important data, and how crucial it is to back it up from time to time. There are a few ways you can store it:

• Online. By this I not only mean your email account, but also services of companies that allow you to store your data on their disks. Often a certain fee might be associated with it, so it is up to you whether you want to pay for this kind of services.
• External hard drives. Those usually have a large capacity and thus make it the cheapest and the most effective way to store data. I would recommend them to most people.
• You can also have additional hard drives inside your PC. Just by installing additional drive in your PC, you will have more space to store your precious data. Take into account that your energy bill might grow because of it, as you will have two hard drives constantly operational.
• CDs and DVDs. Although those do not contain that much free space, their price is not that high, and you can fully rely on them.

I am not going to recommend a specific method for every type of user, but try to remember that it is important to back up your data on a regular basis.

Spell Checking for Firefox

Many people decide to use Firefox as their preferred internet browser due to many features not found in other browsers like Internet Explorer. One of the really useful things in Firefox is the built in spell checker. It is a great tool which will help you spot any mistakes you make while you type in Firefox. Unfortunately, Firefox only checks the spelling on large text fields, not all of them. In order to enable spell checking for all fields, you will have to do some small modification.

To do so, you should first type “about:config” in the address bar. Later type “layout.spellcheckdefault” in the filter box, and double click on preference to change value from 1 to 2. After restarting Firefox your new settings should be applied. You will see that it works, if typos are going to be underlined in red. You can even try to misspell some words on purpose to see if it works.

This tweak will allow you to spot any mistakes you make, even if you are typing in small fields, such as when you fill out forms. From my personal experience I can say that spell checking can be very useful. However, if you really want to avoid any mistakes, you should be only writing when you feel rested, because being tired can greatly reduce your concentration.

I recently noticed that I use the terms conversions and impressions from time to time, but I might have not explained them properly. To begin with, those are terms often used in affiliate marketing and when it comes to Google Adsense. Storing Your Important Data Online

You do not have to store all your data on a disk to have access to it at all times. It will be even more convenient for you to store some of the more important data online. If your computer refuses to work or something else happens, you will be able to access your documents quickly from any other computer from an Internet cafe. To do this, the easiest way is to store your data in your email. All you have to do is send an email to yourself.

I have confimed that it works with Gmail. Just click on Compose message or New message, type your own address, attach the desired files, and your email is ready to go. However, there is still another way you can protect your data. You do not have to necessarily attach them to your emails thanks to add-ons like Gmail Drive. Gmail Drive is a special add-on which you can have installed on your computer, and it can come very handy.

By copying your content to your Gmail Drive folder, the add-on will automatically send all its new content to your email account. There is absolutely no need for you to do it manually, as the add-on will take care of everything.

Choosing Between Browsers?

Which browser should I choose? This is the question which many people ask, while others spend hours upon hours in order to prove that their browser is superior. While I also have a browser preference, this is not really what I wanted to talk about this time, as I rather want to point out something. With so many browsers advertising that they are the best, we often feel like we have to make a specific choice, and that is not really the case.

Some people might not know it, but you can actually have multiple browsers installed on your computer. You can use Firefox, IE, and Opera interchangeably, and you do not have to be limited to just one. You may wish to use Firefox when accessing dangerous sites, as Firefox is considered to be the safest browser.

On the other hand, you may also want to use Internet Explorer when you want to open some of your bookmarked pages, because most websites are compatible with IE. You can use Opera when you feel like you want to quickly jump from one tab to another, as Opera is a very fast browser. Remember that you don’t have to limit yourself to just one browser

We are using our computers for many purposes, including online banking. We also use services such as Paypal while paying for various products. We usually feel secure at our homes hoping that nobody will be able to steal valuable data from our PCs. I know that many people leave their PCs running all day long.

In the meantime they go to a supermarket or on a walk with their dog. There is a possibility that if you leave you computer unattended somebody will break into your house and steal data from your PC.

Our computers might not be as secure as we think that they are. Make sure that you use hard to guess passwords for any important online accounts. If you live in a dormitory or any other place where many people might have access to your PC, remember to protect your PC with a password every time you leave the room in which your computer or laptop is stored.

Steps to Do Before You Install Windows

There is a new version of Microsoft Windows coming every few years. You might want to purchase the newest one, but you do not have to. It is totally up to you. Before you install new Windows, make sure you do a few things though like:

• Back up all your files to another drive. It is important that you do a clean install rather than an upgrade. I am recommending a backup in case something goes wrong with your new installation.

• Make sure that your hardware is correctly installed. This usually applies to new computers.

• Remember to check your BIOS and instruct it to boot from CD. This way the Windows installer is going to run automatically when you insert a CD. Otherwise, it is going to try to access your operating system from your HDD.

• You will be asked to put a CD in your CD ROM drive, so make sure that this one is prepared too.

• Make sure that you have the right copy of Microsoft Windows. If you have a pirated copy, you might encounter some problems, especially from the legal system sooner or later.

Like I said, if you are happy with your current Windows, you don’t have to buy anything, as the cost is quite high, especially if you have a few computers in your household.

Your Child and The Internet

Children are often trusting and naive. They are most likely to believe everything that is happening on the Internet around them to be true and genuine. Of course, we adults, know this not to be true and are a lot more suspicious. Here are some of the things that can happen to your child or possibly teenager on the Internet:

• Internet bullying is wide spread. Watch out for any signal of it as it is quite common, and your child might be affected. This can affect your child’s self-esteem.

• Child predators are present on the Internet. Do not allow your child to meet with anybody that he met on the Internet. There might be some exceptions, but it is better to be cautious.
• Your child might become a victim of online scams. Try to have access to any Internet interaction which could potentially involve money.

• Your child might be lied to on numerous occasions. I am sure that if you teach your child how to use the internet properly, it will be a safe place for him to be. The best thing that you can teach him is not to trust anybody too much on the net.

Hopefully, the above list will help you to react in time, and avoid some of the situations which may occur otherwise. You, as an adult, should also spend some time on the Internet in order to learn what potential dangers await your child.

Enabling Administrator Account in Vista

Administrator account in Vista is disabled by default to prohibit malicious programs from accessing it. While it sounds like a good idea, it is quite inconvenient. Believe me, you want to have your administrator account to be enabled on your PC, because there are so many benefits. If you are the administrator of your PC, you want your admin account to be enabled, because otherwise you will not be able to install and run many programs that normally as an admin you would be. After all, you are the admin of your PC, so why pretend that you are not? Here are the steps you should do to enable it:

Click on Start Menu, right click on Computer and left click on Manage.

Expand “Local User and Groups” and click on “User”.

Right click on the Administrator account and select Properties.

Uncheck the box “Account is Disabled”.

As you see, it isn’t that complicated, but the problem is that many novice users might have problems enabling this account, and that is why I think it was not a wise decision to disable it in the first place.

You will be able to install all programs without any problems while using the Administrator account. If you are a user of earlier versions of Windows such as Windows XP, you won’t have to worry about these steps, because your administrator account is not disabled by default.

Overheating Problems

When it comes to summer it is a wonderful time of the year, but if you live in a really hot climate, and do not have air conditioner you may experience overheating problems with your computer. If your computer has a good fan and thermal paste is applied properly to the CPU then you shouldn’t experience any problems even in the summer, but that is often not the case. There are a couple of things you can do to avoid your computer overheating in general:

• Clean the dust inside the computer, especially near the heatsink. The dust will otherwise block the air, and reduce the efficiency of your heatsink.

• Install one or two case fans. Those are really useful, especially if you overclocked your PC. Many people do not realize that overclocking will increae the temperature at which your PC is running.

• Check if thermal paste is sufficiently applied to the CPU, and if it is not, reapply it. This is a common problem, and can be easily solved if it is easy to remove the heatsink. Unfortunately, some heatsinks may be difficult to remove for a typical PC user. I noticed that in many cases that applying thermal paste solves a lot of problems.

Naturally, overheating is not only a problem which exists in summer, so I hope you will find these tips useful throughout the whole year.

Duplicate Content and Search Engines

Duplicate content is something that every serious webmaster is trying to avoid. Basically, duplicate content means that some specific content, like an article, exists in a few locations on Internet. Search engines often penalize websites for displaying duplicate content, as usually duplicate content provides a smaller value for Internet users. On the other hand, original content is something considered to be very valuable.

However, it seems that detecting duplicate content not always works as well as it should. From time to time, I hear bloggers reporting that articles on their site has been marked as duplicate content, because scraper websites have copied those articles to their own domains. If the duplicate content filter was working correctly, then the scraper sites would be marked as sites with duplicate content, not the opposite.

Generally speaking, scrapper sites are automated websites which pull content from other websites using web scraping. A lot of those sites are made for Google AdSense, but it is important to understand that a lot of them violate copyright law, as they do not even give credit to the original author. The webmasters of such sites do not put any work into writing articles, yet they might be ranked quite high in search engine results.

Some speculate that many search engines fail to realize on which site the content was posted in the first place. The websites which copy/paste content from other sites, but are indexed earlier might be actually treated as legit sites. While it is alarming, let’s hope that the major search engines will repair those content filters, as we do not want our content just copied/pasted to other websites. I hope that this article reminded all of us that original content is something we should strive for, and that copying copy/pasting content from other websites should be avoided at all cost.

Check Spelling

The spelling feature in Microsoft Word is a blessing to many bloggers. Since we are required to post our posts without grammatical and spelling errors, it is good to do some spell checking before you submit your post. In my version of Word, I do not have to do it manually, as Word does it for me and corrects me immediately, if I write something in a wrong way, or if I write a word which is not recognized.

If you have an older version of Microsoft Word, you might need to activate an option to check your grammar and spelling. You can do it by either going to Tools in the upper menu and then selecting Spelling and Grammar, or simply by pressing F7 on your keyboard. Of course, spell checking isn’t perfect and you have to spot some mistakes by yourself, but it should not be a problem if you are a careful reader of your posts.

Recently I noticed that the Wordpress platform allows bloggers for spell checking while they are writing their posts. From what I remember, this useful feature was not available in the past. Before this feature became available, many bloggers had to write their posts in Word document and then copy it to Wordpress, and then publish it. I am very happy that a feature like this exists.

Benefits of Having Multiple Monitors

If one monitor is not enough for you, you can always buy another one, if that will satisfy your needs. Both of them can be connected to the same computer if your graphic card supports that. There are many benefits of having at least two monitors:

1. You will have more than one desktop. This will give you more space to put all the necessary files you use. That can be quite handy if you work with many files like, for example, images.

2. Different monitors might be used for different purposes. One of them can be set to serve you as a working space (with emails etc) while another can be designated to serve as an entertainment station to play games, watch DVDs and listen to the music.

3. Many 3D games like Unreal Tournament or Microsoft’s Flight Simulator enable multiple monitors in order to enhance the gaming experience. Not many players have such a setup, but those who do, really appreciate it.

4. In business environments multiple monitors can be very handy as well, in order to allow employees to see more data on many monitors.

Ultimately, the decision whether to have a dual monitor setup is up to you, so you should take into account your needs.
