Bulding Your Own External Hard Drive

Many files such as programs, music, games, and movies take a lot of space on our hard drives. Getting some extra space for data is always a good idea. If you want to save some money and get more storage space, then I recommend that you build your own external hard drive. There are a few steps that you will want to follow in order to build a perfect storage device.

First of all, you have to buy an external enclosure kit and decide how you want it to be connected to your computer. Connecting with an USB cable is probably the best idea, however, some users prefer Firewire. You should also remember to choose a hard drive that will fit into the enclosure kit.

The most common hard drive that should fit for sure is a standard 3.5? unit. However, if you want your external hard drive to take less space, then you should use a 2.5? hard drive. After you put together your external hard drive, remember to format it right away. An external hard drive is also a great storage device for backing up data. The biggest advantage of this type of drive is that you can take it with you and connect to any computer you want.
