Traditional TV

With computers gaining more and more on popularity, I wonder what the future of television will be. For a lot of people TV is a lot less entertaining than a computer can be. That is because PCs gives a lot more possibilities than TVs. A person who watches TV a lot becomes passive, but those who spend time in front of their computers are more active, because computers require more interaction.

Computer games can be an example of an activity that requires the participant to be very active and stay alert. These days there are a lot of gamers who play computer games. Gamers train themselves constantly to become better and better in arcade games, or in any other game they are currently playing.

Presentations

Slideshow presentations are a great way to present ideas and data in a clear and efficient fashion. They are great for businesses, but even home users can use slideshows for many reasons like, for example, to display family pictures. Programs like Powerpoint are very useful applications, so here is some advice which I can give to you that will make you a Powerpoint power user:

• Try to use the same background for all the slides. PowerPoint has some templates already included that you can use. Of course, this does not apply if you want to make a presentation of pictures, but generally using the same background is a good idea.

• Try to include some pictures and graphics. After all, PowerPoint is a visual way of presenting data. Do not put too much graphics though, unless there is a clear reason for it.

• Make your presentation visible. Use high contrasting colors. For example, if you have white background, use saturated black or dark blue color. If you have black background, use snow white color etc. Your presentation will look so much better is you follow this guideline.

• Do not get discouraged if somebody criticizes your presentation. You can learn something new from someone else’s critique

Looking at the Stars

Did you ever wanted to look at far, far away stars? Now it will be possible, as WorldWide Telescope was launched last year. Basically, it allows you to view images from Hubble Space Telescope, the Chandra X-Ray Observatory Center, and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey among others.

What this means for an average Internet user is that he will be able to browse through the galaxy on his own, or even take guided tours prepared by astronomers.

You will be able to choose from a number of different telescopes, and even switch between different light wavelengths. All of this should allow you to do things that were never possible before for an average person. I think this proves that we live in exciting times.

Chess

I know that there are still many chess fans out there and that chess has been played for centuries. However, with the recent development of computer games and computer technology, I wonder if games like chess will be able to be as popular as they used to be. Today video games are very attractive for players to play. They contain a lot more content compared to chess, and they are also competitive in case of online games.

A lot of games contain interesting storyline, graphics that are pleasant to look at, and even music suited to the atmosphere in the game. They also require thinking, some probably more and some less, but the fact is that they do require thinking. There is also a group of very complicated strategy games like Europa Universalis, Dominions, or Civilization, which might be competitors to chess.

These games require analytical reasoning in order to win them, and due to many difficulty modes, a person may even never be able to completely master them. In these regards they are very similar to chess, but unlike chess, they also take advantage out of recent developments in technology. Chess might soon become a game that only people who never had any contact with computer games will be playing, as such people will usually have problems understanding the attractiveness of video games. Time will tell whether chess will stand the test of time.

Do You Like Discussions?

If you like writing and taking part in discussions, you can earn some money by posting on forums. Some time ago I was visiting MyLot in order to check out the discussion forums and to post on them. There is a variety of subjects on which you can express your opinion. For the first post I have written there, I got paid 2 cents, where as the person that referred me to the website earned 1 cent. The length of your posts is going to affect the amount of money you are going to be paid per post.

You have to understand that you are not going to earn a fortune there, but this is an opportunity for people who are eager to discuss different topics with others, while getting paid a bit. I often visit many different types forums where people discuss various topics. In many of them, the authors of posts write very long messages, as they have plenty to share with others. The truth is that they are not going to be paid for it. If they like to write so much, would it not be a good idea for them to go to MyLot where they can do what they like and additionally get paid for it? Being rewarded for what they are doing would surely motivate them.

Soft Bodied Robots

In the Terminator trilogy there was a robot that was composed out of some kind of metal. This robot was able to change shape, and even squeeze through tight holes. Currently researchers are working on a soft bodied robot that would be able to maneuver through openings smaller than its dimensions.

Such robots could be used to a variety of missions, such as bomb disposal or other dangerous tasks. The robot that I read about is very small, about the size of a softball, and is still being developed.

It would be great to have robots replace doing dangerous tasks, and I think that in the future even soldiers will be gradually replaced by machines.

Best Time to Publish a Post

What time of the week is the best to publish a post? Some will probably say that we should post everyday, but taking into account that this is often not possible, which day of the week is the best? The best day would be when the most readers would visit your blog. While it is hard to be certain, supposedly the best day would be Monday or Tuesday, as that is when most people check out blogs after a weekend away.

Another way to approach this issue is to analyze when do you visit other blogs the most often. Yet another alternative way is to analyze a particular niche, and try to deduct when would people be the most interested to read about a particular subject. For example, a site dedicated to politics should post updates whenever there is an important political event. If your site is about lotteries, you should update it whenever there will be new information available.

I think that we need to agree that it is not that easy to decide when it best time to post. However, those who post every day do not seem to have this problem, so maybe the solution is to post more often? Posting every day will ensure that your visitors will always have something new to read when they visit your blog, even if they visit it on a daily basis.
